So, a little bit about my family so you can understand a little more of where I’m coming from. We have been known to call ourselves the Chunky Monkey’s. Lovingly of course but that also brings out the fact that we are aware of our weight issues. My husband, we will call Ted, and I are on the overweight side of the scale. It happens over the years, you get busy and let things slip and then you wake up one day thinking the bed is shrinking because you are laying so close to one another. Thank goodness for king size.
Having overweight parents, you teach your kids not the healthiest of eating habits as well. Our son, we will call Chris, is overweight unfortunately and we discovered last summer that he has high cholesterol and he is only 10. The funny thing is his arms and legs are nothing but muscle, solid and thin but he carries all of his weight in his stomach. In our defense, he is extremely tall for his age as well. We met with a nutritionist and learned some of the things we could change to lower his cholesterol levels. We all started out really well and then got absorbed right back into our old routine. That is another reason why I wanted to start this blog was because if I’m held accountable for myself then I will be even more accountable for my son.
Our daughter, A.J., is nearly two and fortunately is growing on the right curve to a healthy child. Maybe if we get our eating habits under control now she won’t have to face any weight problems in the future.
